Kanye West Has Donated $2 Million

Welcome back, NBA… Jake Paul has been charged… The world’s highest-paid celebrities… Gabrielle Union files discrimination complaint… and Kanye West has donated $2 million

On March 11, Rudy Robert of the Utah Jazz tested positive for the coronavirus and the NBA became the first major US sports league to suspend its season. Now, by a vote of 29-1 — the Trail Blazers were the only ones not on board — the NBA season is tentatively set to begin July 31. Twenty-two teams will compete in Orlando. These teams are the ones who came within six games of the eighth seed in each conference, and by the way, only the Washington Wizards meet the cutoff in the Eastern Conference. Teams will hold training camps locally before heading to Orlando for more training. The teams will all stay at the Walt Disney World Resort, which is where all the games will take place. Coronado Springs is the main host site. Limited family members will be able to join the players, who will not be confined to their rooms. They will be allowed to eat at outdoor restaurants or play golf, but other than that, it’s all basketball. Players will be tested daily and if anyone tests positive, he will be quarantined while the rest of his team will be monitored, but the games will continue. Speaking of the games, there will be eight regular-season games to determine playoff seeding. If the ninth seed is within four games of the eighth seed in either conference, those teams will play a double-elimination tournament for the final playoff spot. They’ll do the usual best-of-seven series, with the potential game 7 set for Oct. 12. Because of that, we’ll have a delayed start to the next season, which the NBA says will “likely begin” on December 1. For this season, no fans will be allowed to attend the games. No word on what they’ll do starting in December.

Over the weekend, Jake Paul posted videos from a mall in Arizona that were being looted after hours. He said he wasn’t looting, he was just documenting what was going on. But yesterday, the Scottsdale Police Department charged Jake with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly, both misdemeanor charges. He’ll appear in court next month. But Jake isn’t sweating it. He said, “Gimme my charges and let’s put the focus back on George Floyd and Black Lives Matter.”

Forbes is taking back what they said about Kylie Jenner being the youngest self-made billionaire, but she’s still at the top of their list of the 100 highest paid celebrities. Forbes explained their methodology for the rankings, tweeting, “The list ranks ‘front of the camera’ stars around the globe using pretax earnings from June 2019 though May 2020 before deducting fees for managers, lawyers and agents. Figures are based on information from Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Pollstar, iMDB, NPD BookScan and ComScore as well as interviews with industry experts and many of the stars themselves.” So after all that, they say Kylie earned $590M to take the top spot. She’s followed by her brother-in-law Kanye West with $170M. Coming in third is tennis player Roger Federer. Forbes said he earned $106.3M over the past year, with $100M of that coming from endorsements and personal appearances.

Gabrielle Union has filed a harassment complaint against NBC and Simon Cowell. She claims she was fired from “America’s Got Talent” for complaining about the racism on the set. In fact, she called NBC “a snake pit of racial offenses.” There were 60 complaints in Gabrielle’s filing, including a joke Jay Leno told that she found to be racist, a contestant who was allowed to perform in “blackface hands,” and some allegedly racist comments Howie Mandel made while mocking a performer who sang in Spanish. She claims they also had a problem with her hair and kept telling her to tone down her look, but nobody said anything about the other judges’ looks. Speaking of the other judges, there is no love lost between Gabrielle and Simon. She complained that he was allowed to smoke inside the building, which is not only illegal, it caused her serious breathing issues. In her complaint, Gabrielle said that NBC had different rules for white males. On top of all the problems on the set, Gabrielle’s husband said that when his wife started speaking out, people started watching their house and following his family! But an NBC executive released a statement saying, “The allegation that anyone involved in this process threatened Ms. Union is categorically untrue.”

According to USA Today, Kanye West called protest organizers in his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday and told them he wanted to join their march. And yesterday, Kanye walked the streets on the city’s South Side, with protestors demanding the removal of the Chicago Police Department from the city’s public schools. Kanye is also putting some of his millions to good use. He’s set up a college fund for George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna and he’s donated $2M to George Floyd-related causes. Kanye has also donated to cover the legal expenses for the families of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. In addition, Kanye is donating to several black-owned businesses that have been impacted by the riots
