Americans spend $47 a month on streaming services… SNL announces 2021 lineup… Dustin Diamond has stage 4 lung cancer… Trey Songz in violent altercation… and Kourtney Kardashian & Travis Barker are dating
According to a study last year, nearly 90% of people 18-34 are cutting the cord or have never paid for traditional TV service. And now, thanks to the pandemic, Americans are now spending an average of $47 a month on streaming services, up 24% from last April. Right now, 49% of Americans subscribe to four streaming services, while 13% of us use seven or more. Of those who are streaming, 81% of us choose Netflix, making it the number one streaming service. Amazon Prime Video is second at 65%, followed by Hulu at 56%, Disney Plus at 47%, HBO Max at 22%, Peacock at 18%, and Apple TV Plus at 14%. But AppleTV+ may have a bit of a problem on their hands. It only costs $5.99 a month, but 62% of their subscribers are using a free promotional offer. If you buy a new Apple product, you get a free year to AppleTV+. But after the trial ends, 29% say they won’t pay for it, 30% say they will, and the rest of us aren’t sure.
“SNL” returns this weekend and they’ve announced their line up for the next three Saturdays. This will be the very first time for ALL of them — hosts and musical guests alike. This Saturday, John Krasinski will host with musical guest Machine Gun Kelly. On Feb. 6, Dan Levy is hosting with musical guest Phoebe Bridgers. And then for Valentine’s Eve, Regina King hosts with musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff.
Dustin Diamond, aka Screech from “Saved by the Bell,” is battling stage four lung cancer. But Dustin’s rep told TMZ that Dustin has never been a smoker. He does, however, have a theory about what may have contributed to him getting it. Dustin has traveled all over the country for work and sometimes stays in “pretty questionable hotels and motels, because there were no other options…some of these spots might have had mold or asbestos …which he could have breathed in, causing his cancer.” Dustin has just completed his first round of chemo and will begin physical therapy while he awaits his second round of chemo. According to Healthline.com, the five-year relative survival rate for stage 4 lung cancer is 4.7 percent. The site also says, “However, relative survival rates don’t take into account recent improvements in treatment. They’re based on diagnosis and treatment for at least 5 years earlier.”
Last night, Trey Songz was in the stands watching the Chiefs beat the Bills for the AFC Championship, but things took a real ugly turn. There’s a video showing Trey in the stands fighting with a police officer. TMZ has video showing Trey punching the officer’s head and putting the officer in a headlock. Then, the officer pins Trey to a seat. Backup finally arrived, separated the two and arrested Trey. But a witness says things aren’t exactly what they seemed in that video. The witness claims Trey was being heckled by some fans a few rows behind him and he kept asking them to chill out. An officer approached Trey, and — according to the witness — went after Trey without any warning. The witness says Trey was totally caught off guard when the officer got physical, and Trey was simply defending himself. As of now, Trey is on a 24-hour hold. He was arrested for trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.
