Mo’Nique is suing Netflix… AHS ending with season 10… Pete Davidson spotted holding hands with Kaia Gerber… Demi Lovato promises new music… and Taylor Swift took to social media to rant
Netflix is just wishing they’d never asked her to do a special in the first place, but here we are. Mo’Nique has filed a pay discrimination lawsuit against Netflix saying, “I had a choice to make: I could accept what I felt was pay discrimination or I could stand up for those who came before me and those who will come after me. I chose to stand up.” Netflix reportedly offered Mo’Nique a standup special and their opening offer was for $500K. Well, Mo’Nique knows Netflix’s history when it comes to paying comedians. It started back in 2016 with Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais both getting a reported $40M for two specials. Dave Chappelle reportedly pocketed $60M for 3 specials, so we’re seeing a $20M per special average. Jerry Seinfeld threw the numbers way off when he got a reported $100M for 2 specials and an interview series. Maybe Mo’Niquie was hoping to at least get Amy Schumer money. She reportedly got $13M for her special a couple years ago. So half a half a million dollar offer? Mo’Nique was INCENSED. At first, she asked us all to boycott Netflix, but when that didn’t work, she sued. Her lawsuit states, “Netflix’s offer to Mo’Nique perpetuates the drastic wage gap forced upon Black women in America’s workforce.” But a spokesman for Netflix told Yahoo Entertainment, “We care deeply about inclusion, equity and diversity and take any accusations of discrimination very seriously. We believe our opening offer to Mo’Nique was fair — which is why we will be fighting this lawsuit.”
Oscar-winning actress and comedian Monique is suing Netflix for alleged discrimination. She claims she was only offered a half million dollars for her stand-up special while Amy Schumer received 11-million dollars for hers.
This week, “American Horror Story” wrapped up its ninth season called “1984.” In a new interview, show creator Ryan Murphy said the upcoming tenth season may be the last. Right now, Ryan said he’s working on an idea that would reunite some of the fans’ favorite actors for season 10, which is the last season in their contract. He said so far, everybody he’s asked has said yes.
Okay. It’s official. Pete Davidson and Kaia Gerber are dating. They were photographed holding hands outside a grocery store in NYC. That’s the photo that sealed the deal. The two of them were rumored to be dating back in October when they were first spotted grabbing dinner at a restaurant in NY. It could’ve been just two friends hanging out, but they’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since. Maybe Kaia will be backstage at SNL this weekend when Harry Styles hosts and performs.
It’s been far too long, but Demi Lovato is finally ready to give us some new music. She posted a video without any sound on her IG Stories showing her record producer Warren “Oak” Felder jamming to something. She captioned it, “Wouldn’t y’all like to hear…” Yes, we would, Demi! Then she posted, “Recording a song for my loyal #Lovatics. The ones who support me and whatever makes me happy…If you hating – that ain’t you, BYE.” Demi worked with “Oak” on her last album, including her song “Sorry Not Sorry.”
Taylor Swift is back on Tumblr to remind us all why she hates Scooter Braun. The American Music Awards will be honoring Taylor with the Artist of the Decade Award at this year’s ceremony. Taylor wrote, “I’ve been planning to perform a medley of my hits throughout the decade on the show. Scott Borchetta (her old record label boss) and Scooter Braun (who bought her old record label and Taylor’s entire catalog) have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year.” She also let us know that Netflix did a documentary on her, but Scott and Scooter won’t let them use any of Taylor’s older music or videos of her performing it. Kinda hard to do a Taylor documentary without all that! Oh! But Taylor said Scott was willing to compromise on two conditions: Taylor has to agree not to re-record copycat versions of her songs next year and she has to stop bad-mouthing Scott and Scooter. That was met with a hard NO. Taylor is now asking us all to basically harass the hell out of these guys. She said she’s tried to work this out privately to no avail, so sic ‘em! Of course, Scott and Scooter had to respond to all this. Big Machine Label Group released a statement saying they were shocked by Taylor’s Tumblr statements. They said they haven’t barred her from performing on the AMAs and they haven’t blocked her Netflix special. They said, “Taylor, the narrative you have created does not exist.” They said, “The truth is, Taylor has admitted to contractually owing millions of dollars and multiple assets to our company, which is responsible for 120 hardworking employees who helped build her career.” The statement says they’ve repeatedly tried to have conversations with Taylor and her team but none of their invitations have been accepted. They actually thought, though, that they were making some progress over the past two weeks, but then BOOM. “Taylor made a unilateral decision last night to enlist her fanbase in a calculated manner that greatly affects the safety of our employees and their families.”
Taylor Swift took to social media to reveal that her #AMAs performance and an upcoming Netflix documentary on her recent career “are a question mark.”
