Michael Strahan settles with ex-wife… Lori Loughlin expected to be released from prison by Christmas… Johnny Depp exits ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise… Reebok sent Cardi B the wildest sneaker package… and Tributes are pouring in for legendary “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek
Some divorces are easier than others. Michael Strahan’s divorce from his second wife Jean Muggli hasn’t been one of the easier ones. After their nasty split in 2006, Jean was awarded $15.3M and $18K/month in child support for their twin daughters, who are now 16. Michael took Jean to court, accusing her of being physically and emotionally abusive toward their daughters, not taking them to court-ordered therapy sessions and letting them miss volleyball games and horseback-riding events. A judge dismissed the case after they reportedly settled out of court, and Jean agreed to move the girls from NC to NYC. But a separate child support case hasn’t been settled. Michael is making WAY more money now than he was in 2006, and Jean wants that $18K/month increased….by a lot…..
Hoping she would be out in time for Christmas, Lori Loughlin started her two-month prison sentence on Oct. 30 — three weeks earlier than the date set by the court. But the Bureau of Prisons set Lori’s official release date as Sunday, Dec. 27, and sources said unless there’s a COVID outbreak in prison, she’d serve her full sentence. So why didn’t Lori turn herself in a few days earlier? Well, here’s the thing…Lori might be able to spend Christmas with her family after all because an inmate whose release date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday can be released on the last preceding weekday, which in Lori’s case would be Christmas Day. But! Since Christmas is a national holiday, Lori could actually be released Thursday, which is Christmas Eve.
Last week, Johnny Depp lost his libel suit against a British tabloid that accused him of being a wife beater. After hearing Johnny’s ex-wife Amber Heard testify about more than a dozen instances of abuse, the judge ruled the tabloid was within its rights of labeling Johnny a wife beater. Even though Johnny plans to appeal, the ramifications of the court’s decision are affecting his career. There’s a rumor that he will no longer be part of the female-driven “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot. And on Friday, Johnny released a statement saying, “…I have been asked to resign by Warner Brothers from my role as Grindelwald in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and I have respected and agreed to that request.” “Fantastic Beasts 3” is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2022. Warner Bros. will recast Johnny’s part, but fans are hoping they’ll just bring back Colin Farrell as Percival Graves. In the first movie, Johnny’s Grindelwald was posing as Colin’s Graves, which allowed him to hide in plain sight.
Cardi B revealed her new collaboration with Reebok on her Instagram last night, which you can go check out for yourself. Two women roll up in a van with a gigantic “B” on the back. They open it up and roll out this huge pink carpet that looks like a tongue. They take out another “B” shaped box covered in red crocodile and when you unzip that, another tongue rolls out and sitting in the back of the throat is a pair of Cardi’s new black and white platform “Club C Cardi” sneakers. Over the speaker, you can hear Cardi saying something like, “Oh, look! Y’all got them new sneakers!” or something like that. This is what’s being shipped out to all the press today and the official launch with Reebok happens on Friday.
Alex Trebek passed away yesterday at his home in LA, surrounded by family and friends. He was 80. Alex announced in March of last year that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but he continued to host “Jeopardy!” to the end. His last day of shooting was Oct. 29, with his final episode airing on Christmas Day. About a year ago, Alex said he wasn’t afraid of dying. He said, “I’ve had one hell of a good life. And I’ve enjoyed it…the thought of passing on doesn’t frighten me…Hey folks, it comes with the territory.” So many people have been paying tribute on social media. John Legend tweeted, “I was obsessed with Jeopardy as a nerdy kid growing up in Ohio. I’ve loved and revered Alex Trebek since I can remember. What an iconic career. RIP Alex Trebek.” Ryan Reynolds tweeted, “Alex Trebek was kind enough to film a cameo for our film Free Guy last year despite his battle. He was gracious and funny. In addition to being curious, stalwart, generous, reassuring and of course, Canadian. We love you, Alex. And always will.” And Steve Harvey tweeted, “My heart is so sad over the passing of the classiest game show host of all time!!! His style was real to me …… condolences to his entire family and fans #AlexTrebek.”
